I’m still here!

A very belated update on Cabin Fever Handicraft.

Some of you already know that my family has relocated from Washington to Oregon. We are taking our time and enjoying summer on the Oregon coast at our shared family home before beginning our house hunt.

Life at the beach has been AMAZING. We’ve been able to leave the frantic stress of cleaningfixingpaintingpackingallthethingssss and do…nothing. Well at least mom and I are. Hubs is still working very hard but at least he can come some and actually relax now.

I spend my days now enjoying the perfect temperature (low 70s with an ocean breeze) while taking the dogs for beach walks. I watch the kids squeal as the gambol in the freezing water. Kites dart in the air – stunt kites for the adults, sweet little single-stringers for the kids. I get to watch pelican dive for fish and look for whales (none yet). I share my dogs’ joy in getting sandy and salty while chasing the ball.

Well that’s great and all but what does this mean for Cabin Fever? Great question! I don’t know yet. Business is on hold while we live in this tiny house. Most of my studio and inventory is in storage. I will resume production when I’m set up again but it may be a little different. I’m easing into a new….something. I don’t know what it is yet but I’m experimenting and growing and loving not having the pressure to produce.

All I have with me is a bit a dyed paper, ephemera and a ton of scraps. I’m making art journals for MYSELF! And using them! Since most of my supplies are paper and just a few tubes of paint I’ve been dabbling in collage, one of my first loves and I LOVE IT. I’m using this time to explore and play and see what happens with no pressure. What a luxury!

Before signing off I want to say a quick word about Etsy. I have been very disappointed with Etsy. In part due to fees and copy cats but most recently in the handling of allowing the sale and profit off merchandise promoting “Alligator Alcatraz” . I put my shop on hold and I do not know if I will return to Etsy, but that is still to be determined.
